The
8th Annual Carolina's State
8-Ball Championships were
played February 20-22, 2009 at the
Ocean Dunes Resort in Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina.
The event
saw 30 teams from North Carolina,
South Carolina and Georgia com-
pete in the Open Division and 10
Teams in the Ladies event.
The Weekend Warriors, led by B.J.
Hucks, Wendell Thomkins, William
Foster and Kevin Mincey, from
Myrtle Beach defeated a tough
Sharks team, with Aubrey Pippin,
Michael Clay, Chad Stokes and Joe
Cooler out of Georgia in the finals
of the Open Division.
On the Ladies side, Lead Out cap-
tained by "Sam" Beatty along with
Dee Wylie and Becky Nelson out of
Winston Salem, N.C., bested Eva
Butler, Sara Miller and
Sandra Olmsted
of Just Us
Three from
Myrtle
Beach, S.C.
We also had a
Sportsmen's event that saw Cooters
Shooters with Brandt Hukell, "Big"
Ed Williams, Larry Thomas, Anthony
Lock and Lucas Williams capture the
trophy and prize money.
This was a first time invitation to
the folks from Georgia to attend our
event and they made the most of it
with Michael Clay taking the Men's
Singles Championship defeating
Shawn Murdock from Wilmington,
N.C.
Bill "Biff" Johnston from
Myrtle Beach took home 3rd place
money.
The ladies had a nice turn-
out of talented players from all 3
states, but "Sam" Beatty from
Winston Salem again took home top
honors over Eva Butler from
Conway, S.C.
This is the second
year in a row that Sam triumphed
over Eva but this time Eva came out
of the losers side and took Sam in
the 1st round only to fall short in
the 2nd. Still good shootin all
around ladies. Dee Wylie from
Winston Salem took home a 3rd
place finish.
The event was a huge
success considering the shape
of the economy as we
saw growth in the
singles and team
events.
A spe-
cial thanks to Robin
Minnich for selling all
the raffle tickets and
making sure everyone
had a good time dur-
ing the event.
I hope
everyone enjoyed them-
selves and will return in
years to come.
Thank
you.
